At the Annual Aging Services Unite Us Conference in Albany, NY, on
June 6th, 2012, 4C Camp for Adults Received the Great Ideas in Aging
Award from the Albany Guardian Society. The award was accepted by Tom
Briggs, former Director of Delaware County Office for the Aging and
representative for the 4C Camp for Adults Board. At the recognition
program, over 300 aging services professionals from around the state
viewed a video taken at last year’s camp session. Rick Ianello,
Director of the Albany Guardian Society, stated that he was impressed
with the uniqueness of the camp and the quality of the programming.
Tom Briggs, in accepting the Award, pointed out that the camp concept
was the brainchild of former 4H Camp Director Scott Oles, who felt
that adults could benefit as much as youngsters from the 4H Camp
experience. Networking with staff from the Office for the Aging,
Cornell Cooperative Extension and some very talented community
volunteers, Oles and Briggs slowly developed the camp for adults.
Briggs explained how over time, the camp took on its current name,
4C-Camp–Camping to Create Caring Communities, which expresses the
Camp’s goal of exporting the sense of community experienced during the
camp session by the campers to their respective hometowns.
